Let Us Remember the Reason for the Season

Happy December! Where in the world did 2014 go?!?! I blinked and it was gone!

Thus is life with kids, right?!

As we head into the Christmas season. I thought it would be good to start the month by remembering the true reason for the season.

It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of buying gifts, and giving your list to Santa that we forget to slow down and remember how precious this holiday truly is. As someone who has celebrated Christmas her whole life, I know when it comes around the story of Christmas doesn't even phase me.

And it should.

It is the day to celebrate the miraculous birth of our Savior - our perfect Lord in the flesh. It is the day hope entered the world! The day that God's plan to save his children from their sins, without yearly sacrifices, commenced.

The day that God's plan to save us from our sins began - thousands of years before we were even born.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 5:8

Without our Savior we would be living a life of hopelessness for our future with God and eternity. We take the time to slow down every year to truly reflect on the wondrous gift that came into this world like you and I.

Jesus Christ was an amazing and undeserving gift to us from God. Jesus was sent solely to suffer the death and rejection that we deserve. He was the last sin sacrifice - we are saved by the blood of a pure innocent lamb.

The one thing that I love about the Catholic church is their use of crucifixes. The cross in itself has become a symbol of Christianity so much so that we forget the gruesome and yet most loving thing anyone has or will ever do for us. The crucifix is a sobering reminder of the cost of our salvation. The gift that was given to save our souls because God loves us that much.

The Christmas season is a celebration and a joyous time to remember the birth and life of our King. And to spread love and Gods gift to everyone we see and interact with.

To remind us that we need to love others as Christ loves us.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.1 John 4:10
